Minister's Message
Tomorrow we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the United Church of Canada. We are a relatively young denomination considering the Christian church goes back close to 2000 years. The United church did something amazing in 1925, we amalgamated three separate denominations into one. Ours was one of the first ecumenical church unions in the world. It happened because Presbyterians, Methodists and the Congregationalists all realized that working together would help serve people better at home and abroad. It made sense. The process was long-- talks began in 1904, they originally included the Anglicans but they pulled out early on. It took 26 years of negotiations to create the United Church of Canada. It officially came into being on June 10, 1925. Our church was created by an Act of Parliament. When we change the church organizational structure in 2019, the Act had to be amended. This is surprising as Canadians typically keep issues of church and state separate.
I think it's appropriate on this day, to celebrate all the good work that we in Lowville and United churches across the country have done. We've made a positive different in a lot of people's lives. Now we need to think of the future and as ourselves, what do we need from our church and what does our church need from us. God has the answers and will give them to us if we ask. Amen.
Case for Kids
We had a great group of walkers represent us last week at the walk to raise money for disadvantaged kids in Halton and Hamilton, we raised over $700. I'll publish the exact amount next week. Well done,
