It’s been proven true that a healthy relationship is marked by healthy communication, transparent exchanges of feelings and thoughts.  Couples who enjoy long and healthy marriages, talk about the hard things. Shouldn’t the same be true for our relationship with God? We are exploring the Laments as we continue with our preaching series, ‘A Summer of Psalms’.

The genre of psalms called the laments, gives us permission to keep the communication real with God. The psalms of lament give us permission and precedence to name the hard things in our lives, our struggles with faith, as a prayer to God.  God has broad shoulders and can handle our frustrations, as we disclose them and at the same time hold God accountable to God’s faithfulness.

Our prayer life gets healthier, and we feel closer to God, when we keep our prayers honest and dare to trust God, to work out hope for us.  We will explore Psalm 22, which is the famous prayer of lamentation Jesus quotes on the cross. Jesus not only quotes the psalm to express his suffering, he knows the entire psalm and is confident that as unbearable as his suffering was, God will vindicate him. God will workout hope, on his behalf and on our behalf.

Come to church on Sunday August 23rd  at 10:30 am., and discover how the laments can help us to enjoy an even healthier relationship with God.

As a special treat, enjoy a locally made freezie after church to cool the summer heat! Lowville United Church supports local businesses.
