On Sunday January 4th we launch into the season of Epiphany. An Epiphany is a sign or manifestation from God. Many of us are familiar with the story of the Magi from the East who came to worship the Christ-child, for the wise people or magi that sign was a star, likely a supernova, that appeared in the sky when Jesus was born, and seemed to rest over the house where the family was staying. Historians suggest that Jesus was likely a toddler when the wise people from the East found him. These people who were from a different country and culture would have journeyed for over two years and encountered many challenges along the way! A sign can be a star, a sign can also be a word that arises for us, a prayerfully discerned word that becomes our star gift. On January 4th we will each receive a word, as the spirit leads us, that word will provide new learnings along the way and may guide your spiritual formation for the next year. Come to church on January 4th, 10:00 am at Lowville United Church and discover your star gift!

We will also be having communion and will be featuring a video which everyone enjoyed during Advent that celebrates the Christ’s child that we worship. God faithfully and consistently provides signs, words and dreams to guide us through the chaotic moments in life. Our scripture from Matthew Chapter 2 includes four dreams! Grief can create a bit of chaos in our lives. Our compassion can be calm in someone's chaos.
